“Victorian Childhood” colouring and drawing competition

Colouring fun for all infant and primary school children! 7′s and under can colour in pictures of Victorian fashion and buildings whilst older children will be drawing their own!

Come and collect your colouring pictures from the 2nd of April at your local Hackney Library. Do not forget to write your name and contact details in your pictures before handing them back to the library.

All entrants will be invited to a party at their local library where prizes and certificates will be presented.

The Dickens Digest: a writing competition for adults and children

Retell the whole of a Dickens story or just a particular scene from one of his books in the style of a favourite newspaper, magazine or comic.

Bleak House could be turned into a searing article on the injustices of the Victorian legal system in the style of broadsheet investigative journalism
A scene from A Christmas Carol could be turned into a ghostly Manga comic strip.
Great Expectations – dashing young star “Pip” Pirrip tells a celebrity magazine about his amazing rags to riches story.
Oliver Twist – sensational tabloid expose of the “violent street gangs terrorising London”

You can get creative with your entry – adding pictures and graphics – or just submit plain text. You can enter on your own or as part of a group.

The prize categories are:

Children’s competition: 11 and under
Teenage competition: ages 12 to 16
Adult competition: ages 17 and over
Group competition: all ages – can include families submitting one entry

All entries should fit onto a single side of A4 paper. Entries can be posted into a ballot box at any Southwark library or emailed to southwark.libraries@southwark.gov.uk

The lucky winner(s) from each category will enjoy free DVD and CD rentals for a whole year. The winners and runners up will also win free copies of Oliver Twist. Selected entries will also form part of an exhibition in Southwark libraries.
